7 Ways to Stay Happy Under Pressure

Pressure is a big word that applies to all of our lives and is present around us everywhere. Do you think your life is stress-free or full of stress? Of course our lives are all full of stress between the different challenges life puts in front of us and the responsibilities ahead of us.
Mark Messier says it well, “The only pressure I’m under is the pressure I’ve put on myself.” This has an obvious meaning, but also has an extended or deeper meaning. This points out that we have some control over our life and can decide what bothers us and what does not. We have to take care not to overload ourselves with a lot of thoughts, for some thoughts are not important and should not require our attention whatsoever.
All of us are busy and have a lot going on in our lives. The amount of activity in our daily lives can sometimes be overwhelming. You have six courses you are studying for and need to balance time between them, need to stay fit and healthy by exercising, and have to raise enough money to pay off your student loans.
Unfortunately we find that we lose ourselves, our priorities, and our values because of our busyness. How many times have you done something that was against your values because you were faced with pressure? All of us deserve a little rest away from all this trouble and stress of the world.
So find your own rhythm and space and control what affects you and what does not. Also, stop worrying about what people think about you for instance, or about things not being as perfect as you want it to be. You do not have to worry about having your clothes perfectly fitting you or having your car clean to the point.
Being anxious and worried about such things merely adds pressure to our daily lives; pressure we are not in need of at all. This is pressure that will only affect our other tasks and possibly make us less productive. Instead, try to stay optimistic and positive, in order to live happily and progress to the better.
Here are 7 tips to live happily under pressure:

1. Have A Support Group

Do you know how having a support group could help you with your daily tasks and falling in bad situations indirectly? Being pressured is not a good situation at all, because it may affect our health and condition and may lead to worse circumstances. However, life is full of such events and situations which test your limits and drive you to the extreme edge.
This is why having a support group to help you overcome bad circumstances and situations is an asset and may make the difference between collapsing under pressure and sustaining the pressure. If you have not yet thought of creating such a strong, supportive group, maybe you should start considering this option.
Your family is your biggest support circle, and you could more and more circles around that core circle. Just make sure your circles are “positive” circles and that they actually help you rise and not bring you down instead. This is because being around negative people can make a negative situation more negative. However, with the correct group, they can always make it seem like your life is stress-free and so good. Just remember that there is always a positive aspect to most situations.

2. Get Used To It

Ever felt like you have already become used to the pressure present in your life? Do you feel that your life is normal with all the pressure you go through? Sometimes we do not realize how much pressure we are putting ourselves through until we fall short of something or face some health issue. Some people wake up feeling sick and that their throat is not that clear because they did not sleep enough. Do you know that feeling when you are about to have a cold start? It is such a bad feeling and having a big burden over your shoulders that keeps you up all night could be the reason behind this.
This is why pressure is a very important aspect that needs to be lessened as much as possible to avoid any potential hazards.
Now, getting used to a life full pressure could be something good, but not for long. I am sure we all know someone or could visualize someone that lives in a life packed with pressure but does not realize that unless a bystander or someone else tells him how much he is going through.
The other way the person would realize that there needs to be some changes made in their life is when they are surprised by a negative health impact. At that time, they start to make sure things change to the better. However, why do we not balance our life from the beginning? We should not wait for others to tell us or for our body to inform us that it is in pain for us to start acting. Thus, getting used to our lives and the pressure present could be a way to appreciate and live our lives happily, but is not necessarily the best way.

3. Embrace Your Life

Are you happy with where your life is heading? What you have accomplished so far in life? If you are not fully satisfied with the effort you put in and the results you are achieving, then there are definitely areas of improvement.
However, we need to keep in mind that with all the pressure and burdens present in your life, your life is still much better than others who do not have nearly as much blessings as you do. There are ways to reduce pressure and live a happy life, but we need to always remember that life is not easy at all and that good things will happen when we work hard and push ourselves and our capabilities.
Just focus on the positives in your life and how your life is going well rather than feeling bad and looking at the negatives of your life. Everything happens for a reason and after such a period of intense pressure, there will come a time when you appreciate all this work you put in because it led you to a much better place and brought about more success.

4. Do Not Let Anyone Else Define You

Are you living someone else’s life without even knowing? Is someone else controlling or defining your life for you? You are the one responsible to define and identify whether or not others will have an impact on you, and more specifically, the kind of impact they have on you. It is one thing to live a life of pressure and discomfort, but it is another thing to have people dictate or interfere with the way you live your life and add unnecessary pressure to your existing life.
For instance, let us say you have your busy life and someone imposes a commitment or meeting that you do not need or want to go to. You can inform the person who invited you politely that you are not really interested or that it would be hard for you to make it. People usually understand that, but do not feel forced or compelled to do anything you do not have the incentive or desire to do. This is because if you follow everyone and do whatever they ask you to do regardless of your commitments and interests, it will no longer be your life and would be more of their lives.
You should continue to live a life of values, a life of principles and improvement; a life you set for yourself. If you do so, you are more likely to live a happy life even under the overwhelming pressure of life. This is because it is simply a life you set, and everyone usually plans a life that suits them and a life that would make them happy.
So stay polite and have good communication with others, but do not make it a daily routine to prioritize other people’s tasks and activities over yours, because then the pressure will just keep on adding up. This does not mean that you should not help people out, in fact the more you help people the better and the more connections you make too. However, just make sure you remain in control of your schedule and do not put yourself at more pressure whenever you can avoid it.

5. No One Is Perfect

Do you so desperately want to be perfect in everything you do and accomplish everything you dream of? Unfortunately no one is perfect and life is full of bad situations we need to pass by to get to the real success. Consider the different challenges that come your way golden opportunities you can benefit from and utilize to proceed and reach the summit of the mountain.

6. Know When To Take A Break

Do you take time to rest and take breaks whenever you feel like the pressure is just becoming too much? It is very important to measure your performance and time your breaks. If you do not time your breaks, you are more likely to break. We should not wait until we reach this point to start to think about taking a break. Taking a break is not something wrong, rather it may help boost your performance and success.
This actually might be the difference and might weirdly enough help you more than affect you negatively. Think of an example. Let us say you go to the gym and want to achieve a strong, beach body. So you plan to go 6 days a week and stay consistent with this so that you achieve the best results.
However, you need to make sure you rest enough because a big part of bodybuilding is rest and sleep, right? So you be the judge of yourself and your time and take a break whenever you need it.

7. Look For Your Own Approval

This idea here is related to being confident and defining your own success and life. It is important to look for your own approval and not wait for anyone else to validate or verify your decisions. They are you’re your decisions and your ways in life and so they are important to you more than anyone else, and as long as they are making you happy, do not feel pressured to follow anyone else.
The tips mentioned above are just a few of the many different ways you can live a happy life under pressure found in life and that is hard to get by. It is definitely not going to be easy to wake up one day and agree that you are not going to live a complicate, stress-free life, because whether we like it or not, we need to feed our families and giving the best life possible with the proper education and knowledge necessary to progress and move forward always.
Moreover, we have goals that we want to live by and set to succeed, and thus there will always be hardships faced to get there; there is nothing that comes easy. Even when something is free, like a free buffet, someone else has already paid the price for the food being served. However, with all this happening around us and all the pressure situations we are placed in, we need to find a way that will have the least negative impact and the most positive impact.
I am not saying this will happen the first time we try things, for we do not learn for free, but making the effort and learning from our mistakes is the biggest achievement. If we fall short of something or head the wrong direction once, this should be a wakeup call and should not happen again.
Let us forget about pressure and start learning to equip and utilize the tools available in front of us to lead a better life; one that is headed to the right direction, as we define it. Discard the triggers that influence or stimulate unpleasant behaviour and situations and start focusing on those that inspire you and help you progress and develop further. Always stay optimistic and positive, and look at the blessings you have rather than the drawbacks and misfortunes present; which all of us have in our lives.
